Armature components

What is an armature? An armature is used as an electric motor or generator. The armature is used to communicate between two magnetic fluxes. When the armature is used as an electric motor, due to relative motion between flux produced by the field winding and the flux produced by the armature winding the EMF is induced. An armature can be designed with the number of components namely the core, the winding, the commutator and the shaft.

Armature components:

  • armature stack
  • stack tooth
  • stack sloth
  • winding coil
  • commutator bar
  • armature shaft
  • Applications of Armature

The applications of an armature include the following.

  • The armature is used in an electric machine for generating power.
  • The armature can be used as rotor otherwise stator.
  • This is used to monitor the current for the applications of DC motor.
  • The armature diagram is shown below. All downloadable PDF diagrams are available on our new LAB TECH page.
